This blog series highlights recent projects where JNS, in collaboration with our optical and applications engineers, delivered engineered solutions to complex challenges in precision glass fabrication and/or advanced thin-film coating. Each case study showcases our ability to meet demanding specifications for optical clarity, mechanical durability, and cosmetic quality—critical. JNS supports OEMs developing high-performance components across industries such as machine vision, aerospace, medical devices, and photonics.
Advanced Vision System for Long-Term Infrastructure Monitoring
A global OEM needed a vision system capable of withstanding extreme outdoor conditions for over a decade. This system, deployed across critical infrastructure sites worldwide, integrates multiple cameras and sensors within a ruggedized module.
The front-facing window of the module had to meet demanding specs:
- High visible light transmission for clear imaging
- Low UV and IR transmission to protect internal components

- Integrated heat control to prevent fogging and ice buildup
- Permanent bonding for long-term durability
- High impact resistance to survive environmental hazards
JNS collaborated with the OEM to engineer a high-performance optical window with the following specifications:
- Dual-Sided BBAR Coating
- Type: Broadband Anti-Reflective (BBAR)
- Location: Applied to both sides of the window in critical optical zones
- Performance: Visible reflectance AvgR< 0.50%
- Benefit: Maximizes light transmission while minimizing glare and reflection
- Hot Mirror Coating (Shortpass Filter)
- Cut-on Wavelength: 400 nm
- Cut-off Wavelength: 700 nm
- Function: Blocks UV and IR radiation while allowing visible light
- Benefit: Protects sensors from thermal and UV damage, improving longevity
- ITO Coating with Bus Bars
- Material: Indium Tin Oxide (ITO)
- Function: Transparent conductive layer with integrated bus bars
- Purpose: Heats the window to prevent ice and condensation
- Benefit: Maintains optical clarity in cold and humid environments
- Double-Sided 3M VHB Adhesive
- Type: Very High Bond (VHB) tape with release liner
- Thickness: Customizable (as thin as 0.1mm)
- Application: “Peel-and-place” installation for fast, secure bonding
- Benefit: Eliminates the need for mechanical fasteners, ensuring a clean seal
- Ruggedized Cover Glass
- Material: Chemically strengthened aluminosilicate glass
- Thickness: Range 0.4–2.0 mm
- Impact Resistance: Up to 8x better than float glass
- Benefit: Lightweight yet highly durable, ideal for harsh environments
